Something that I never really understood is that the rabbit with same suspension and engine was quicker on the track back in the Showroom Stock days. You wouldn’t have expected that. Maybe weight, maybe torsional stiffness, I don’t know.

The Scirocco was the only VW that kid me found interesting, for some reason I can’t remember. I still do.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

Same here. When I was a kid I thought I’d buy one of these, and my sister said she wanted a Rabbit (she even had one for her Barbie dolls; it was big and blue, and I modified it to fit her dolls by cutting out passages for their legs and adding T-tops - it was the ‘70s, after all).
Mom drove a Dasher wagon, which wound up being my first car, until she bought a Vanagon. I bought a Rabbit GTI to replace it , and my sister bought a Jetta to replace her first car, an early Accord hatch. As fun as t hat GTI was, it was a poorly built, unreliable PoS, and I wish I had bought a Scirocco instead.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

If I own another FWD VW itll be a Scirocco. I tried to buy a brown one a few years ago but it sold before I could get to it.

It looks to be in good shape! I have an 81 Scirocco S, and I have only seen one other Mk I in the last decade.

The Scirocco probably wouldn’t have been as practical, but who cares.

Being in high school and college at the time, practicality was not something I was looking for in a car at that age. As odd as it may sound, I replaced the GTI with a Vanagon, of all things. The Rabbit was a pretty usable vehicle, when it was running, and I even moved a full-size pinball machine in that thing, something I doubt a Scirocco could have done.
I don’t know why, but I’ve always been attracted to vans. I’m on my third now, having had nice sedans (BMW, Mercedes) and sports cars (Porsche). I’d love to have Scirocco, or even another GTI, now that I have something reliable as well as a towing service at my disposal ...

Vans have their own appeal, especially vintage ones. I even really appreciate our modern Kia minivan for what it is and enjoy it. I’ve grown to feel some amount of appreciation for pretty much every car.
